The use of FAST

There is enough evidence to suggest, relating to Alzheimer disease that there are seven different major symptoms that have been identified by using FAST (Functional Assessment Staging Test) evaluation that helps chart the progress of the disease through its various stages. The level of care which is required to treat a person that has reached a particular stage in the development of Alzheimer’s disease has helped doctors understand the Alzheimer disease stages more clearly.

Alzheimer disease stages one and two

The first Alzheimer disease stage is when the FAST results indicate minimal difficulties. This is followed by the second Alzheimer disease stage in which the patient begins to show mild forms of decline including complaining of loss of memory as well as forgetfulness of names of people that are well known to the patient.   This can be ambiguous however because these symptoms are the same as the normal ageing process

Alzheimer disease stage three

More impairment of their memory is present in the third Alzheimer disease stage.  The patient also shows that they cannot perform the tasks assigned to them at work. The progression of Alzheimer’s disease brings about noticeable anxiety and inability to remember.

Alzheimer disease stage four

It is characterized by impairment in memory in relation to remembering current events as well as recent events of a personal nature.  The fourth Alzheimer disease stage is considered as a mild stage in the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
There are also changes in the patient’s mood as well as personality and the patient will no longer be able to perform tasks of a complex nature that require planning as well as even creating a simple menu for the dinner table. Performing arithmetic calculations in their mind also becomes almost impossible.

Alzheimer disease stages five and beyond

Disease stage five is noticeable though mild to severe impairment in cognitive abilities. The sixth stage involves severe impairment of cognitive functions.  The patient is no longer able to deal with their environment when the seventh and last Alzheimer disease stage is reached.

Research on Alzheimer disease stages

The main thrust this far has been to understand the exact manner in which the disease develops and to also understand the effects of proteins known as beta-amyloidal plaques, according to results of modern Alzheimer’s disease research It has also led to trying to understand the working of how anti-Alzheimer’s disease factors work.

The treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease has become more significant although a cure has not been found to prevent the Alzheimer’s disease stages for once and for all.
