Alois Alzheimer made the discovery of a disease which affects a person’s brain in 1906.  A physician from Germany, he was the first to make the discovery.  More than a century later, the disease has been researched intensively and many new facts have come to light.  From his first discovery, Alzheimer’s has been named after the physician who made the discovery.
The Critical Brain Disorder

The problems with the disease is that there is as yet no known cure for it and it has the potential of destroying a person’s brain cells and thereby leads to impairment of memory and thinking as well as severe behavioural changes that can ruin a patient’s life.  Due to Alzheimer’s affecting as many as five million Americans, it is potentially a fatal brain disorder.

Alzheimer’s is also the most common manifestation of dementia; a term which is generally used to describe memory loss as well as impairment of intellectual functioning that leads to inability to perform routine daily activities.  Today, it is the sixth most fatal disease in the United States.

A cure for Alzheimer’s.

Over the past few decades, research has gathered valuable results.  Worldwide efforts to find a cure for the disease have resulted in better treatment methods being developed.  These have succeeded in delaying the onset of the vicious disease we know as Alzheimer’s and the introduction of further treatments.
Treatment for the symptoms of the disease has brought about no cure as yet.  In order to successfully improve the millions of American Alzheimer’s sufferers, suitable support services are available.

Who is affected by Alzheimer’s?

When a person has reached the age of sixty, they are more likely to be affected by Alzheimer’s.  Though, in few instances it has also been found to start when a person is only in their fifties.

Alzheimer’s is a common consequence of degeneration of the working of the brain. As people age their pains may undergo changes, which may lead to symptoms of Alzheimer’s and develop further.

The cause of Alzheimer’s

Modern science has not yet been able to establish exactly in which part of the brain the Alzheimer’s disease stems from, however the disease causes certain parts of the cell factory to cease functioning.

This damage begins to spread causing the cells in the brain to become incapable of their natural functions.  This results in mental and physical impairments.  These seriously affect a sufferer of Alzheimer’s, causing life to become increasingly difficult.
